Polytan provides a new Rekortan Class 1 track in Qatar

Polytan supplier of the new Class 1 Rekortan track in Qatar

In the summer of 2019, Polytan equipped two athletics facilities at the Qatar Sports Club, Doha with new Rekortan synthetic surfaces: the main running track in the Qatar SC Stadium and the warm-up track. They were installed in the build up to the 2019 World Athletics Championships to allow the athletes to prepare for the event.

Both facilities are World Athletics Class 1 certified (formerly IAAF Class 1). They were installed in record time by Bilal Al Abdalla from Waves Trading & Contracting W.L.L. Waves is an experienced local Polytan partner who has already installed more than 20 tracks in the region in just a few years.

The Qatar Sports Club has been part of major sporting events for almost a decade. The Qatar Athletic Super Grand Prix took place there for the first time in 2010, and the venue is first stop in the Wanda Diamond League (formerly IAAF Diamond League) series.

In 2020, the Diamond League returned to the Qatar Sports Club after temporarily shifting in 2019 to the Khalifa International Stadium, the venue of the World Championships.

The new installations in 2019 were Rekortan PUR 15mm system from Polytan which thanks to the combination of an elastic base layer and solid construction, provide excellent force reduction and acceleration.

Rekortan is the original synthetic track and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2019. Rekortan has the most World Athletics certifications worldwide.
